100% Shetland Wool fron Rockin’ Stockin’s Farm near Tofield, AB
Consistent and super fine, Heritage is perfect for lace projects or intricate colour work.
Like all our woolen spun yarns, Heritage is washed, carded, and spun at the Custom Woolen Mills in Carstairs, Alberta on industrial revolution era mill equipment.
Shetland wool is known for its wide variety of natural colours, and for its surprising softness and durability. Despite its rustic look and feel, it is not itchy, and is comfortable to wear. Because of its natural drape and lightness, Shetland yarn is excellent for lace projects and Fair Isle colour work.
Because Shetland is denser and less lofty than other fibres, this yarn is a slightly lighter weight than our other breed of Heritage. It knits up closer to a lace weight yarn rather than the fingering/sock weight of the Dorset/Rambouillet blend. Heritage Shetland has no nylon in it, so we do not recommend it for socks, but it’s perfect for lace shawls and other luxurious lightweight garments.
