Heirloom BWM 2017
Fingering Weight 1-ply
100% Black Welsh Mountain Wool from Athenry Farm near Innisfail, AB
Lofty and rustic, with a light halo, Heirloom is perfect for colour work and lightweight garments.
Like all our woolen spun yarns, Heirloom is washed, carded, and spun at the Custom Woolen Mills in Carstairs, Alberta on industrial revolution era mill equipment.
Black Welsh Mountain sheep are a primitive breed originating from the southern mountains of Wales. Unlike the very dark brown colour of other natural “black” wools, Black Welsh Mountain wool is a true jet black or red black colour (called gwlan cochddu in Welsh). As a medium wool, Black Welsh Mountain tends to have a softer hand than other black wools, and is extremely durable, making it perfect for a variety of garments such as sweaters, hats, mittens, and slippers.
