Lofty, lightweight, and warm, Harvest is our cornerstone yarn, perfect for a large variety of projects including hats, mittens, sweaters, and slippers.
Like all our woolen spun yarns, Harvest is washed, carded, and spun at the Custom Woolen Mills in Carstairs, Alberta on industrial revolution era mill equipment.
Dorset wool is a natural bright, clean white colour. Dorset is quite soft and resists felting, making it appropriate for next-to-skin projects like hats, scarves, mittens, and socks.
Black Welsh Mountain sheep are a primitive breed originating from the southern mountains of Wales. Unlike the very dark brown colour of other natural “black” wools, Black Welsh Mountain wool is a true jet black or red black colour (called gwlan cochddu in Welsh). As a medium wool, Black Welsh Mountain tends to have a softer hand than other black wools, and is extremely durable, making it perfect for a variety of garments such as sweaters, hats, mittens, and slippers.
For this blend, special black fleeces from Black Welsh Mountain/Dorset cross bred sheep were hand selected to be mixed with white Dorest wool to create a beautiful light grey colour without sacrificing the quality of the Dorset fibre.
